DARK HEART

If you're a K-pop fanatic, or if you love something Korean, then you must like the 3rd and last of the series of pictorials we did for SM STYLE MANUAL Vol. 12.

Channelling the K-pop phenomenon and the style they breathe in their music videos, SM MEN'S FASHION joins the bandwagon by tapping Korean male models (who are currently studying here in the Philippines) specifically for this pictorial.

Featuring the Dark Heart collection of Boys Teens Wear for Holiday 2012, turn to the dark side of fashion with slim black silhouettes, leather trims, metal studs, goth-rock and loads of punk attitude. All clothes by MARKUS and TANK JEANS.

Check out the new collection available at SM Department Stores nationwide.

HE'S ON FIRE

I super love this pictorial of ours (certainly one of my favorites we did for the whole year) - from concept to styling to photography to post-production, not to mention model Adriel's enviable long blonde extensions, slim frame and effortless stance - overall, this is a visual firestarter!

And of course, you won't believe this shoot is a part of a series of images included in the latest SM STYLE MANUAL (Vol. 12 to be exact, and was included as inserts in Esquire and FHM issues this month) featuring different fall/winter trends from SM MEN'S FASHION. This is just so conceptual, very editorial in approach, that I believe most of you will burn (with satisfaction, for sure).

So, expect sparks to fly when real men wear pink - especially when styled with modern sporty aesthetics. See this part 1 of the pictorial we did and get oh soooo tickled pink. :-)

All clothes from MARKUS, available at the Boys Teens Wear section in SM Department Stores nationwide.

HOMMECOMING

I'm backkkkk... I'm done with hibernating! After a few months of focusing my entire energy on different styling projects, I wonder now if blogging is still a fashionable thing to do. Anyways, here I go...

Speaking of a comeback, SM MEN'S FASHION returned with quite a show this recent Philippine Fashion Week with Jacky Aquino again directing. Curious fashion mongers anticipating the once-a-year event were visually spoiled with pound-per-pound fashion extravaganza that featured the hottest male models in the country and music provided by DJ Mars Miranda. It was a dizzying sight with dozens of goodlooking, handsome men with household images to the likes of Hideo Muraoka, Daniel Matsunaga, Benjamin Tang, Zaydan Timpani and Nat Kiefer, you can choose who you want - in dreams, you know!

On top of all these things - chic layers and stylish decadence - SM MEN'S FASHION is obviously on the move to asserting itself as the foremost leader in local menswear fashion. I am not saying this because my partner Geo and I were two of the stylists (we styled for Boys Teens Wear) of the said event. From the collections that were presented, SM MEN’S FASHION transcended global trending with a brilliant profusion of design techniques, innovations, silhouettes, patterns, colors, and a wide range of stylish offerings that make men's clothes more exhillirating and enticing.

I. HOLIDAY 2012 COLLECTION:

a) HIGH SOCIETY  (Menswear)
Romantic formal wear made interesting with medal pins and floral brooches.

b) DARK HEART (Boys Teens Wear)
Black (with some white) outfits with gothic edge, leather appliques, metal chains & spiked accessories, and lots of K-pop sensibilities. Also take note of the DIY metallic gold shoes that Geo and our assistant Sheila painstakingly did just for this segment.
Notice that this segment is dominated by Oriental models - with Korean boys on the lineup.
Oriental-looking girls are on the lineup, too. This proves to tell that girls can also rock what the boys are wearing.

c) LUXE LEATHER (Menswear)
Dark-hued clothes with leather trims that exhibit cold-season layering for the modern urban men.

d) DESERT STORM (Boys Teens Wear)
Utilitarian clothes with rocker-aviator inclination done in hues of brown, beige, khaki and olive green. Also check out the punky spiked earrings that Geo specifically made for this segment.

e) MODERN MILITARY (Menswear)
Subtle military-inspired looks in shades of dark blues, choco brown and olive greens for fall.

f) TICKLED PINK (Boys Teens Wear)
A refreshing rendition on how pink can be incorporated onto outdoor-sportswear styling this holiday season. I have to give recognition to Geo and our assistant Sheila Danipog for customizing the Milanos shoes for this segment, as well as to our apprentice Darrell Baustista for making the knitted head masks.

II. SPRING/SUMMER 2013 COLLECTION

g) ABSTRACTION (Boys Teens Wear)
An explosion of vibrant colors and vivid abstract or painterly prints - perfect for a festive summer 2013! Tops by in-house brand Tee Culture. And those shoes are really nice, thanks to the DIY efforts of Geo and Sheila (again).

III. DESIGNER COLLABORATION - S/S 2013
This is what will make SM MEN'S FASHION miles ahead of the fashion pack - not just one, but 6 top local designers collaborated for SM's in-house brands. Designer pieces at retail costs? We're more than thrilled to see them on the racks come S/S 2013!

h) LOUIS CLAPAROLS for MARKUS (Boys Teens Wear)
My favorite designer collection! We're so happy to sit down with Louis during the initial design process, and I myself was head over heels when I saw the end results - camouflage prints that don't necessarily look military in totality, yet done in a cheery, very youthful and refreshing way for summer. I also love the hats that Louis designed himself just for this segment, as well as the eyepopping DM boots he provided.

i) IVARLUSKI ASERON for COCO REPUBLIC (Menswear)
Ivar tries out resort wear for the first time and succeeds in interplaying neutrals with hints of delicious summer colors in cotton pique and linen fabrics. Very luxe and comfy-looking. And oh, those killer shorts!

j) RAJO LAUREL for WHARTON (Menswear)
Rajo does it retail-safe for W by Wharton line with relaxed weekender looks done in knits with geeky/preppy inclination.

k) RHETT EALA for MAIN STREET (Menswear)
Rhett presents a younger, hipper urban collection for the Main Street brand with nicely-put colored pieces, beaded tops, mesh appliques, sporty chic. Can't wait to get my hands on those interesting cropped pants with bucket-type pockets, and those Burberry-esque embellished tops!

l) FREDERICK PERALTA for MICHEL ANDRE (Menswear)
Frederick likes it semi-loose and colorful for Michel Andre. Suits with tinges of bright colors can challenge any man on the rise to success.

m) RANDY ORTIZ for UBERTO DURANTI (Menswear)
Randy O. is a true genius when it comes to menswear, and lends his creativity with Uberto Duranti line this time. He gives the brand a luxurious feel with his trademark pattern play, rich colors, suits with interesting details, and chic jackets to die for at amazing retail price. Moreover, I also love how he styled his collection with bowties, cummerbands and suspenders.

What's so great about styling for SM MEN'S FASHION for PFW in successive years now is that we get to work with the people we truly love and enjoy with most. Thanks specifically to Ms. Ayen Florendo, as well as Alan Koa, Anthony Castro, Yeng Ardiente, Sir Jeffrey Lo and to the whole MFMC for this great styling experience and opportunity. Special recognition to all the other people who toiled for this event, from Bobby Carlos & his makeup team, Mader Luis Espiritu (stylist for menswear) and his associates Rudolph & Mikka, Mau Aguasin (videographer), all the models that we've worked and become friends with, all the collaborating designers, and Mader Jacky's entire production unit. Above all, thanks to the MGP team (Sheila, Darrell, Maika, Rosie, Aubrey, Joanne, Jojanni, Chimie, etc.) who helped us backstage with all the collections assigned to us. And of course, Geo Palmiano, super thank you for always being there, and for giving all you could for us to present all these wonderful, stylish things. Finally, looking through all these pictures, how can I forget thanking the Lord who made all these possible! Congrats everyone!

MAKING N.E.W.S.

I am so impressed, SM MEN'S FASHION is leaping with giant strides and gaining higher grounds with pictorial after pictorial, spoiling us with delightful images of the hottest male specimens in the country - oh well, don't we love men, afterall?

And this as a caution to other local menswear brands: it wouldn't take long before the in-house labels of SM MEN'S FASHION dominate the scene and share the top spot along with other existing retail giants. And with such fearless forecast, SM MEN'S FASHION is making big N.E.W.S. this midyear season, and is headed in all the right directions.

SM MEN'S FASHION encourages you to free your mind from the stern rules of manhood in this new Style Manual (Vol. 10) that you'll get free when you buy the latest issue of PEOPLE ASIA Magazine. For in the unchartered corners of the earth, you will find freedom in every direction imaginable - whether north, east, west or south - stylish expressions stripped of restrictions.

Let spirits soar and experience life from here and beyond in an all new collection by SM MEN'S FASHION targetted for pre-fall. I am particularly excited about this style manual that I art directed all throughout. Thanks Ayen Florendo (Marketing Head) for entrusting me this shoot done with some editorial flair. Thanks everybody in the creative team, our Tagaytay Highlands experience is definitely one for the history books!

See the product of our hardwork while the journey of SM MEN'S FASHION begins now.
