MANGO-LICIOUS

MANGO... Wowwww!

According to news, supermodel, style icon and my kumare (hehe!), KATE MOSS, topbills MANGO's first image television ad campaign. Filmed in London under the orders of the acclaimed photographer Terry Richardson, the short fashion film makes a splash starting this September 2011 on an international scale.

For MANGO, being able to count on a fashion icon like Kate Moss was key for the brand when taking the decision to make this qualitative leap in its advertising campaign, given her huge media impact and the values associated with the model: fashion, style and femininity, which perfectly match the brand's positioning. Along the renewal, I also noticed that MANGO's logo has changed.

Last time I remember, Kate Moss was the designer-collaborator/image model for another competing global fashion retailer, Topshop, where her label under the brand reached massive success with a series of launches for her self-designed capsule collections. I wonder what happened... Well, as they say in fashion, nothing can ever be permanent.

On local shores, MANGO has already taken huge steps in terms of promotion with its recently-held fashion show at Resorts World Manila. The brand tapped some of the metro's busiest stylists in the likes of Teej Nepomuceno, Myrrh Lao To, Patrick Galang, Bianca Santiago-Reinoso and Preview's Anna Canlas to interpret its F/W 2011 collections. Here are some fashion tidbits of the show:

I LOVE MANANG!!!

It has been several nights already. I think I was severely haunted by this pictorial entry published weeks ago by the United Blogs of Benetton that featured the creative work of stylist Eric Poliquit and photographer Enzo Modejar that centered on an old lady turned mysterious fashion icon called "MANANG".

THE AVANT GUARDIAN. Manang's very stylish arched-back profile shot (left) while donning egg-shaped rosette dress and colored up-do; only to know she's only watering her plant pala on her chunky platforms (right). Kaya mo?

She may have aged, but Manang wouldn't be outdone in terms of what's hot and what's not (she detests to be the latter). Probably, she rose from being forgotten that she transformed herself - not just to be noticed - but also to be revered and adored. Female bloggers, be very scared!

POP-ARRAZI. Would you mind if your lola wear the trends this way and blog about this experimental look?

I am not sure, but I think Manang would want to compare her aging like brewing wine, too, for she believes that taste gets better with age. Whoever Manang is, or whatever she wants to become, wala daw bagasan ng trip please!

DRAGON LADY. Manang proves here that she can be filthy rich, utterly glamorous and a real bitch out to conquer fashion with one big accessory - a muscle-clad boytoy half her age!

To Enzo and Eric, this is a really nice, mind-blowing concept, and I have become Manang's ultimate fan. Speaking of which, Fadal Manila in collaboration with OS Accessories x Enzo Mondejar and Eric Poliquit proudly present DEAR MANANG, I LOVE YOU (a short film). Catch Manang as she transit from still pictures to fashion film as she unveils her fashionable, mystical story on August 25th.

Also see this trailer. Make Up by Nina Dumpa; Music by Lintech; Written by Ehiacinth Miranda; A film by Matthew Valeriano. I hope Manang becomes a well sought-after celebrity and an icon after this. Lavshu Manang!

NOW PLAYING: FEMME NOIR

Fashion films seem to be hitting the board lately like bombs being dropped on target zones. The newest craze in artistic short films showcase a particular fashion trend, look, design all interpreted in editorial manner with a story line that captivate the imaginative souls. Moving fashion editorials? I simply like!

In celebration of Philippine Star's 25th Anniversary, YSTYLE Section recently paid homage to Old World glamour with the release of a fashion video entitled FEMME NOIR, held at Whitespace in Makati. This suspense/mystery short film with inclination to French drama featured 11 femme fatales in 1940's-inspired couture (Kylie Padilla, Sam Sadhwani, Dina Tantoco, Michelle Barrera, Olivia D'Aboville, Nadine Howell, Marga Valdez, Garovs Garovillo, Valerie Weigmann, Pauline Prieto, Lucile Dizon), all stalking yummy Brazilian model, Bruno Elves, in the historic halls of The Manila Hotel.

The film was directed by photographer Paolo Pineda (wow Paolo, this is level-up to your already successful career), director of photography Dondi Narciso and second director Ejay Leung - all from Midnight Bonkers. Executive producer: Bea Ledesma; Producers: Audrey Carpio, Ana Kalaw, Celine Lopez & Liane Reyes; Stylist: Charmaigne Palermo, Assisted by Vanessa Johnson; Makeup: Angel Reyes-Manghilot & Pong Niu (Mac); Hair: Alee Benson & Donald Lapez. Fashion by Noel Crisostomo, Cay Cuasay, Chris Diaz, Joel Escober, Popo Go, John Paras, Julius Tarog, Chloe, Culte Femme, Janylin, Myth, Rodina, & Schu.
